Welcome to your OIS Library Media Center!  The mission of the library is to promote a love of reading through various events and activities throughout the year, while supporting the school's curriculum as an extension of the classroom.  Our door is always open for those wishing to browse and learn through the world of reading.  There are many exciting events and activities taking place in the library throughout the year.  You'll find many of these activities outlined below:

  • Birthday Book Club:  Student Book Recognition and Donation
  • Reading Rocks:  Ongoing autographed photographs donated by various celebrities (commenting on the importance of reading)
  • Library Media Lessons
  • Technology Tuesday:  Technology Training for Staff
  • Book Fairs:  The Fall Book Fair will be held September 14-18.  The theme is:  Real Cowboys Read Books:  Lasso Up to a Good Book!
  • Used Book Purchase:  Discarded books may be purchased for $1.  All proceeds go to benefit the library.
  • Author and Illustrator Visits
  • Illustration Station:  We are currently working on a new station in the library where students will be allowed to practice working as an illustrator!  (Funded through a grant made possible by the St. Clair County Educational Foundation)
  • Partnership with Odenville Public Library
  • "Book It!":  Program made possible by Pizza Hut
  • Read to Succeed: Program made possible by Six Flags
  • Capstone's Virtual Library:  Access to books via the Internet from home or school
  • Alabama Virtual Library
  • Accelerated Reader

Please check our library's website periodically for news and updates.  We are excited to be a "mobile" library, meaning we have the capability to move about the library and interact with students while tackling the task of checking books in and out via a handheld device.  We love technology and are continuously looking for ways to better our library and computer lab.  We are proud of the technology currently accessible to our students and staff  and look forward to the continuous improvement we have planned for the future.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments you might have concerning the library.

 Books are the quietest and most constant of friends;
they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors,
and the most patient of teachers.”

Illustrator Michael P. White visited Odenville Intermediate School in January. Students participated in Art Sessions as Mr. White taught and inspired through drawing and airbrush painting. Mr. White is the illustrator of three children's books, soon to be four. He is pictured here with OIS students Ashley German and Tyler Sloan. Find out more about Mr. White at: www.michaelpwhite.com .
